One time brother and I were camping fishing on Shasta lake. had morning cottonmouth and hungover..went to a tavern place and was closed. Merle Haggard hisself opened the door and gave us s bucket of ice and a sixpak and bag of Cheetos. Said come on back later and enjoy ourselves. Wouldn't take money.. said too early.  He is /was a  real nice fella. Never would guess he was the Bona fida Merle... he was though.

I have never in my life given two shits about any entertainer passing... I am actually having a hard time with this one. There has never been anyone whom I related to in so many ways by their music. Maybe part of it is that I clung to him and his generation when it came to what I feel is real country music. There is only a few left and when they are gone it seems like country music will be gone unless there is a real change. There are a handful of hopefuls out there that have a chance of carrying on the traditions, but not sure there is enough to fight against the machine and win. It is going to be a bonfire, drinks with Hag playing loud tonight.
