My heart is broken. He wrote some great parts of my life. God will hold the door for you. Without question.

I agree with Andy below me. A song of this nature simply did not exist before John wrote and sang this human emotion from the deepest of the human condition. You know it's real when the first time you hear it, one is in tears.

It appears that God needed a folk musician in heaven, and it seems that he called for the best. Thanks so much John, your music carried me through

One of my favorite Prine lines ever: "I guess that love is like a Christmas card / You decorate a tree, you throw it in the yard". Such a great metaphor for a failed relationship, family. This is the best written song ever about a failed marriage.

"Your heart gets bored with your mind and it changes you". Wow...so much in that one sentence! This song is from the double LP "The Missing Years". Every song on that LP is great! Tons of guest artists singing, playing, writing, and producing songs on it. My fav John Prine LP. I'll be missing John whatever years I have left that are still missing.

Could listen to John all day long. "John sings lullabies for adults" , I read that somewhere recently.

Back in 1999 I left my wife and started divorce proceedings. I saw John in concert only a couple of weeks after leaving. This son sure hit home....

I am mad at myself for somehow not discovering John until I was 30 years old. 35 now and going to see him this fall. CANNOT wait.

I can only assume the people who down voted this hit the wrong button.

I didn't realize this was a John Prine song, I thought Zac Brown was the original performer. I though it was an especially beautiful, poetic song, and now I know why!
